2020-2021 20% Time/Genius Hour

Hello my name is Solimar and I am working alone, and my project will be baking. I chose this project because I feel like I should learn about baking more. What I hope to accomplish is to gain and experience more acknowledge about baking. What baking is a method of preparing food by using dry heat. Heat is gradually transformed from the surface of cakes, cookies, and bread to their centers.

    What I did today was I baked cookies and I learned a couple of things that I need to keep in mind. From what I learned today is to not use baking sheets because it depends on the different oven you use. When I used to bake at my dad's house I used the baking sheet paper so the cookies wouldn't stick to the pan, but when I used the paper at my mom's house the paper almost set the house on fire. I also learned that I need to watch over the cookies when they bake because when they were done they came out burnt. I wouldn't say I was successful today because of the problems and mistakes I ran into but other than that it was really fun to do. The result of the cookies was burnt, but not all the way so there was a little softness to it. I will make more progress in the future after this situation and I will be more careful about what I'm doing.

    What I did today was I baked vanilla cupcakes and what I learned today was that I need to use the correct measurements. What I did was that I thought I didn't need to use the correct measurements so I went a little overboard so I used a bit more flour than I was supposed to. I didn't make any changes to anything because everything was okay and tasted good so everything was alright. I did run into two problems. Before preheating the oven I was making the bread base instead of preheating the oven first. The second problem or mistake I made was that I was supposed to leave the butter out so it wouldn't be frozen, but when it was time to put the butter in the mixture I forgot to take it out of the fridge so the butter was still frozen and I still put it in the mixture so it was tough to mix. I would say I was successful in the end because the cupcakes were still really good. I have been making progress and doing a bit better but still doing a couple mistakes here and there.

    What I baked for today was lemon bars and what I learned was to always preheat the oven first and stop guessing on measurements. The problem that I came across was that I never preheat the over before doing anything since I go a bit slow, but I should have preheated it since it takes less time than finishing. Another mistake that I did was never taking the right measurements. By not taking the right measurements made some of the ingredients taste stronger than the others. I was still successful in doing this because just coming into a couple mistakes and problems doesn't mean that I failed and the end product was pretty good. I really didn't make any progress, in fact, I keep ignoring the mistakes I made and not fixing them so I'm not really going anywhere but I need to realize these problems and fix them.Lemon Bars Recipe | Ina Garten | Food Network

    Today I baked vanilla cupcakes and what I found interesting was that I finally got to bake cupcakes by scratch rather than using the batter powder you would use from the store. Going by scratch was way more fun than using store-bought.  What I finally changed was that I used the correct measurements than just guessing what would be the right amount since last time I didn't have enough of the ingredients. I did come across a problem, I was too slow because I was taking my time to make sure it was right, other than that I didn't make any mistakes because I knew what not to do, learning from past mistakes. I haven't made much progress today still doing simple recipes, but I am improving. Today was pretty successful other than being a little slow, but I did manage to pull it off and the end product was really good.

    What I did was I made a chocolate lava cake and I came across a problem. The problem was that I didn't have any bittersweet chocolate and I didn't want to go out and buy some because I didn't have any time to do that so that was the only change that I made too. Other than that everything else was good and there were no mistakes or problems. One thing I learned was how to get the chocolate filling inside the cake and it was kind of troubling how to do it but I managed.

     I made lemon-lime cupcakes and it was like making regular cupcakes but the only changes that I  made were adding lemon and lime flavoring and making glaze instead of frosting. The problem that I came across was taking time to glaze the cupcakes, which took a long time to do, and not having enough storage to keep them in. I didn't make any mistakes since it was like making regular cupcakes but with lemon flavoring. I'm making progress after making cupcakes before doing this and getting better at it. I was pretty successful making these cupcakes, having experience, they came out pretty good and tasted amazing, the only problem was me being really slow.
